What are Eco-fuel Logs?All types of eco–fuel logs and wood pellets including Blazers, Heatabix, Woofers and Bark logs are made using the same basic principals although the types of wood used, shape, performance and suitability in each appliance can vary enormously.
Wood briquettes are produced by drying this clean timber residue. It is then compacted under high pressure and heat. During the process, lignin one of the natural components of wood is produced in a liquid form and when cooled solidifies, binding the wood together in its new shape, to produce a pellet or briquette. The industry calls this agglomeration. The process does not use any adhesives or chemicals and the resulting briquettes usually have well under 10% moisture content. In comparison to seasoned timber that is considered to be good quality and dry at 25% humidity. The lower the moisture content is the most significant factor in determining heat output. Most pellets and briquettes produce consistent heat output in the range of about 4.8kwh/kg to 5.5kwh/kg. When compared to seasoned timber averages of around 3kwh/kg and kiln dried logs at 4.5 kwh/kg it starts to make them look like a convincing alternative. Added to this benefit these fuels are considered to be carbon neutral or carbon lean. Unlike the emissions from burning oil, gas and coal, as fossil fuels they are thought to contribute to the greenhouse effect, the cause of global warming. All of the eco fuel logs are suitable for wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves, and range type solid fuel cooking stoves. They will burn on open fires but the inefficiency of an open fire will not capture the true benefit of our fuels. Wood pellets are for wood pellet stoves and boilers only and should not be used on any other enclosed stove or appliance. Eco-fuel logs are used increasingly because of the lack of good quality dry hardwood logs around. They are also very clean and easy to handle, stack nicely and store well in dry conditions. The high heat output convinces many customers to use them as an alternative to traditional firewood or coal, as they have been in Scandinavia for the past 35 years. Our eco fuel logsWe stock several types of eco-fuel logs because all stoves have differing technical characteristics. We currently stock;
Our customers soon learn what is best for theirs, or use a combination of our fuels as part of their heating 'arsenal' for those times requiring fast warming or slow burning. Which ever you choose, the main principles are the same; virgin timber residue from preparing planks in sawmills was previously put into land fills. Now this is used to produce an incredibly dense wood fuel with these common advantages; low moisture content resulting in high heat outputs, low ash, clean and dry, easy to handle, no chemicals or glue, very compact and easy to store.
